In this short illustrated comic, I tell an exaggerated tale of my time working retail. While on the surface it is not much more than a silly cartoon, the creation process was much more involved. The comic uses a blend of hand drawn digital illustration with thick confident lines and heavy shading as well as 3D models filtered to fit a comic book aesthetic. This allows for a unique visual style that could not be achieved through basic illustration techniques.
I used Maya to create simple shopping cart models. Then, in Maya, I set up dozens of different scenes using various amounts of shopping carts in different positions. This on top of the parking lot scene I modeled with the so cleverly titled "RETAIL MART" building allowed me to easily set up whichever scenes I needed for each comic panel. I was able to establish each scene I required to tell my story and then brought each captured image into Clip Studio and was able to arrange them into the comic format and draw my character over each composition. This is how I achieved the final result. Pictured below are some of the captures I used to create the comic.
