Little King VS Evil is a short animated film I created using a mix of different animation styles and techniques. Every graphic element used however was hand drawn using a pen tablet.
Little King VS Evil started as a short comic experiment playing with the gradual increase in size of a composition. If it were to be printed, each panel could be printed with increasing scale on one sheet of paper, with the final panel taking up an entire page on the back of the paper. As I moved into doing more animation, I decided to revisit this project and adapt it into a short animated sequence.
The story is simple, following a young king who was killed in battle. He has been revived under mysterious circumstances, and must battle his way out of a cave. I evolved this story a bit more for the animated version, as I wanted to try storytelling in a sort of animatic storybook style composition. It then transitions to an animated fight sequence, using essentially digital puppets via Duik Bassel (an Adobe After Effects add-on). These characters were created by hand drawing each body part and stitching them together to make fully posable characters. It then transitions back to the storybook style animation to finish out the sequence.
The animation was created primarily using Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Clip Studio Paint.
